The main areas in which surveyors work are :

Arts and Antiques
Valuation, sale, purchase and management of antique and fine art items of all kinds includes storage, insurance, security, conservation, restoration, shipping and packaging of valuable works of art and antiques.

Building surveying
Analysis of the physical condition of buildings includes surveys for purchase and lease, and diagnosing building defects such as subsidence, damp and rot.

Commercial Property
Sale, management, leasing and valuation all types of property in the business sector including the public sector, education, healthcare, licensed, leisure and telecommunications.

Construction
All aspects of the construction industry around the world from house building, to process engineering such as oil rigs.

Dispute Resolution
Advising on conflict avoidance, arbitration, adjudication, mediation and expert witness .

Environment
All aspects of the management, monitoring and assessment of the environment in the context of building, land and construction.

Facilities Management
The total management of all the services which support a business including business re-location, health and safety, outsourcing, procurement, property management and utilities and services.

Geomatics
Collection and analyse of information about the land and the seabed. This includes mapping and positioning, navigation systems, land registration, boundary identification, ocean bed and resource surveys.

Machinery and Business Assets
Valuation of equipment from heavy machinery to IT applications for insurance, accounting, balance sheet, insolvency, rating, compulsory purchase, taxation and market value purposes.

Management Consultancy
Providing impartial advice to enable clients to create and develop business strategy including developing real estate strategies, developing acquisition strategies, corporate recovery and insolvency.

Minerals and Waste Management
Management of the raw materials needed by construction and manufacturing and the fuel required to provide energy.

Planning and Development
Physical and social impact of the built environment including design, urban and rural regeneration.

Project Management
Effective control of projects in the land, property and construction industries includes controlling or co-ordinating the entire development process for the successful completion of each specific project.

Residential Property
Acting as an agent, broker or auctioneer in the sale or purchase of residential property, the management of public and private property including the contractual relationship between landlords and tenants and advice on investment.

Rural
Involves giving advice to farmers and landowners about how to unlock some of the value of their assets, diversification, planning, the selling of livestock, change of land use and rural management.

Valuation
Valuation of property assets covering social, economic and legal factors and taking into account the natural environment, the physical attributes of any improvements to the land and in certain instances the profitability of any activities carried out on the land or within the buildings in question.
